Moroni 7-8

Moroni 7-8 Study Guide – to be discussed May 21
Day 1: Read Moroni 7:1-9; Psalm 95:6-11; Matthew 11:28; Jacob 1:7-8; James 1:6
1. Whose sermon is recorded in Moroni 7? What did he speak concerning? To whom did he speak?

2. Read Psalm 95:6-11 (with footnote 11b), Matt. 11:28, Jacob 1:7-8. What is the “rest of the Lord”? The word “rest” is used twice in Moroni 7:3. Is there a difference between the first and the second usage? What do faith and hope have to do with entering into that rest?

BONUS: What does a “peaceable walk” look like?

3. Underline “real intent” in Moroni 7:6 and 9. How does James 1:6 help explain the term “real intent”?

Day 2: Read Moroni 7:10-19; D&C 84:47-48
4. Do you think Mormon believed people are either all good or all bad? What gifts do we have to help us discern good and evil?

5. Underline the words “inviteth” and “enticeth” in Moroni 7:12-13. List ways Satan invites and entices today. How does the Lord invite and entice?

6. How can we become children of Christ? (See also D&C 84:47-48.)

Day 3: Read Moroni 7:20-32
7. According to Mormon, what is the relationship between faith and discernment?

8. By what two things can we begin to exercise faith in Christ?

9. What are the errands of angels? (See also 2 Nephi 32:3, Alma 29:1-2.)

Day 4: Read Moroni 7:33-48; 1 Peter 4:8
10. How do we know the day of miracles has not ceased? Will miracles ever cease?

11. What is the relationship between faith and hope? Between faith and humility?

12. What is charity? How can we possess or develop charity in our lives? Why is it so important? (See also 1 Peter 4:8.)

BONUS: Why doesn’t charity ever fail?

Day 5: Read Moroni 8:1-9
13. Who wrote Moroni 8? What was the occasion?

14. What point of controversy does this epistle particularly address? Is it still controversial today?

15. How did Mormon know it was “solemn mockery before God” to baptize little children?

Day 6: Read Moroni 8:10-21
16. Why don’t little children need to repent?

17. What qualities did Mormon say the proponents of infant baptism lack?

18. In what way(s) does infant baptism deny the pure mercies of God?

Day 7: Read Moroni 8:22-30; 1 Peter 4:6
19. Look at the footnote for Moroni 8:22d. What did Mormon mean when he wrote all those who are “without the law” are alive in Christ? Who might this include? (See also 1 Peter 4:6.)

20. What are the first fruits of repentance?

21. How does perfect love endure? What is the natural consequence of the denial of great knowledge?
